May longed to have children and was delighted when she found out she was expecting her first child in Summer 1950. This turned out to be my mum, born in March 1951. Unlike normal babies who scream and shout, she slept for three days solid after coming into the world. Guess you've done enough shouting at me to make up for any lost time earlier though, eh mum! ;) May certainly had her work cut out for her with my mum, whose childhood highlights include feasting on garden worms; trying to get a big bull to murder my uncle George out at Coalburn; and throwing herself into the pond at Ally Park so she got covered in muck. Along came George, May's second child, in 1954. George also liked causing trouble, but unlike my mum, he had an irritating habit of getting away with it when he smiled sweetly. My mother, unfortunately felt that she had to have the last word quite often, which landed her in hot water.
